Parent Roles

Team Managers

Team Managers have just a few organisational duties, whilst enjoying the benefits of getting to know their children’s team and team parents.

Duties include preparing a contact list, rostering for oranges and scoring, helping with nail and jewellery checks on game day, and distributing communication from Sandy or the club to team members.

Team Managers are required to have a Working With Children Check and cannot also be coach of the same team.  Two adult points of contact are needed by the club.

Check here for our Team Manager’s handbook.

Committee members

All teams should have at least one representative on the committee.

This can be the coach or team manager or another passionate member of your group.  Committee member time requirements are significantly less than most other clubs.

A typical year may require attendance at four committee meetings held locally, one coaching clinic and one low key presentation get together.  Committee roles are detailed here.

Coaches

A coach’s job is to develop their players in all facets of the game and encourage a love for netball.

Coaching of younger teams is extremely rewarding however it does require a weekly time commitment.  A parent coach is highly recommended, but the club can help to organise one of our older players to coach at a cost to the team if no parent is able to coach.

Coaches should plan and attend all training sessions, assign player positions and arrive fifteen minutes before games to run through player warm ups.

Coaches are required to have a Working with Children Check and should complete Netball Australia’s online foundation coaches’ course with the cost of the course to be claimed back from the club.

Weekly Scorers

Parents and guardians are required to score matches throughout the season.

The team manager will organise a roster to ensure the responsibility is shared.  BDNA scoring is done through a Netball Australia app which is very simple to use.  The Home Team scores, whilst the Away Team stands with them to help and ensure everything is correct.

Beau Rock scorers may be asked by their coach to help choose Best and Fairest votes for their team.

End of season presentation

Officially recognising talent and commitment is important at all clubs.

Beau Rock does this at our end of season ‘presentation night’. Best and Fairest, and Coach’s awards are announced across all age groups, with coaches, players and parents present. Many teams choose to have a meal together afterwards or organise this for another day.

Beau Rock Best and Fairest points are chosen by the team scorer or coach each week, and added to association points awarded by umpires.

Best and Fairest trophies are awarded to the two highest scoring players across the season. The aim is to award players who demonstrate the highest level of game day performance and positively contribute most to the overall team results.

A Coach’s Award trophy is awarded for each team and is based on the individual coach’s own criteria.

Criteria might include player disposition, participation, leadership or sportsmanship.  It might include the most improved player or player who has responded best to direction.  Usually, it is a combination of all these factors.
